Fun Activities On Cruise

It was funny to hear some comments from bloggers who thought that going on cruise was boring besides getting seasick. This Star Cruise Libra may not be the world's largest but it has 10 levels and very wide body. I would be the first to get giddy and vomit but I felt good throughout without any seasick at all. I hardly felt the floor move at all and slept well like a baby with sweet dreams for 3 nights. They have lots & lots of activities for adults and kids to keep them busy but I avoided them all as my life has been hectic enough living in the city. I preferred the entertainments, dining, gymnasium and casino!

1. I had so much fun by just relaxing and dreaming nonsense. Even the aliens came to watch me jump & jump like a monkey! The whole track was suitable for jogging one big round and they have a bigger track & basket ball court on the level below specially for health & gym freaks like Yannie.

2. I accompanied my wife and her aunt to join the open air dance exercise but there was this Thai Tom Yum cooking demo going on. I had to stop and smell the nice aroma before drinking a bowl of their delicious spicy Tom Yum soup! So shiok!

3. It was a fun exercise for young & old with loud music to keep the tempo going. My 60+ aunty had a blast and enjoyed stomping on the ship! She felt so rejuvenated and mentally good. Later that night she won over a thousand at the casino!

4. There is a small compact gymnasium complete with separate showers and sauna for male and females! We went there everyday as it was fun to be on the highest deck to view the miles of calm oceans while you burn the calories. Both pairs of pink and orange shoes are from Skechers.

5. Everyday I was still snoring in the oceans while my wife jogged many rounds around the ship before sunrise and did her Tai-Chi exercise before joining me for breakfasts at the 3 restaurants of our choice.  Later I dragged my lazy self to the gym for some workout. My wife ate little but vegetarian, so her weight did not increase at all...!!!! I know I was greedy but I was on a holiday, right!

6. Day 02 - The ship docked at Phuket and we had a full day ground tour visiting 3 factories and the beautiful Wat Chalong temple. I just went along to take the opportunity to look-see & learn something from the Bee Farm, Cashew Nuts Factory and Sea Shells Museum. It was quite a boring outing actually as Phuket is actually the world's most happening and crazy place along Patong Beach at night but I ended up buying nonsense from the Bee Farm & Cashew Nuts factory. That's not me! I felt being stung by the bees and tour company which I booked from. No wonder a number of people stayed behind on the ship as they knew what to expect.

7. That was the 2nd time I visited the cashew nut factory! I was smarter and went to eat all their sample bottles of every flavour of cashew nuts and Thai keropoks!!! I filled both my palms full and munched until I was so damn FOOL!!! Heh heh! I also bought the most cashew nuts and carried a big box up the bus!

8. This is a big and nice Thai temple in Phuket - Wat Chalong. The tour guide told us that many bodies of the Tsunami victims are still being kept there awaiting funerals. I went to pray for everyone & world's peace and made small donations.

9. It was my first trip to visit a Sea Shells Museum which is a very huge and educational place for a boring fella like me who could even spend hours gazing at sea shells or even antiques. The bus drove along the countryside and made a stop on the peak for the passengers to view the panoramic view.

10. We had our own dinner at a shopping centre in the town and the bus made its way back to the waiting ship. There were many small stalls lined outside the ship. We shopped for cheap souvenirs and ate some spicy food before jumping into the ship which slowly sailed off at 1:00am!!!

11. I bought some nice T-shirts and Singlets from this stall. The owner's cute sons played outside and waved at me. I dug my pocket and gave them all my loose changes! I was in a generous mood after a small win at the casino too.

12. The cute boys were dumbfounded but very happy beyond belief. They clasped their "Wai' gesture to thank me. I told them to be good boys and study hard at school.

The next post will be my last for this cruise trip and covers the visit to Krabi.

  1. I would've been one of those who chose to stay behind if I know beforehand it is bee farm and nuts factory. Is there no 3rd option: not joining the tour but go off on your own to the beach instead?

    1. Wow!!! You scared me! I was still editing and you appeared like David Blaine! LOL

Yes you can have free & easy options to go anywhere as there are many private taxis and guides waiting below to take tourists anywhere. You will have plenty of time to have fun at any beaches or bitches from 1:00pm till midnight! The distance from the ship to town is at least 45 mins by taxi!!
We had booked from the KL's tour company which arranged their local tour buses. Other passengers who booked from other tours went elsewhere! Some smart ones took taxis and had their own fun! I was so jeles of them!

  9. Help out the local industry by buying the nuts and bees products is good. The sea shells in the museum are so pretty and the sizes from small to big. Those different sizes, they are real, right?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also thought the same about helping their local industry as the cashew nuts were not cheap at all.

I was amazed to see so many beautiful sea shells that never washed up on our Malaysian shores. BTW I learnt from my days living in Penang that one needs to collect prettier and unique shells around 5-6am before the workers come to collect them for sale!!! That happens in Thailand and Penang too.

  10. So sad to hear about the bodies waiting to be cremated or buried. Is it because no one claims them and therefore no money to carry out the ceremony?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I was kinda sad to hear the unclaimed bodies for whatever reasons. It is quite common in Thailand to hear about funerals being conducted after months or years. They would embalm the bodies and placed the coffins inside the temple's cemented plots while waiting for the right day for families to conduct or even to get the royal cremation by their King.

I guess the tsunami was such a big disaster and perhaps the reasons could be the DNA factors or whole family being wiped out till no next of kins. I was very disturbed and saddened about that 2004 Aceh's Tsunami and went out to beg money from friends to help the victims in Penang. I posted it in my blog - http://twilightzone518.blogspot.com/2008/11/tsunami-revisited.html

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really believed that I was just plain lucky that trip as I am not a gambler in casinos like my aunty and husband! They visit Genting casinos at least once a month with free room stays! Just imagine that!

The Thai bahts could do the talking itself for the boys!

  12. Going on a cruise with many people like you did is nice. Can enjoy doing exercises or dance routines together and also go to the casinos to try your luck together. Oh, only one more post to go before you end this series Will miss it because I don't think I will even go on a cruise because I prefer to save the money to go travelling. Ah opportunity cost - cannot do both, can only do one because my funds are not endless.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would say that the money spent on the cruise was really worth every dollar! I did some simple maths on the air fares to fly from Penang to Phuket with 3 nights hotel and 4 full meals a day! The cruise is worth more than that in many folds! It was like a floating 5 star hotel status by judging on the number of facilities, pools and casino, quality F&B restaurants, polite crews and thoughtful management.
For a change, I would definitely love to visit other countries too! I am also working harder to find money now or just pass my hat around!!!

  16. #1.. OMG!!! my Anay jumped so haiiiiiiii.. no wonder all the aliens from Mars stopped by to watch the aline from Saturn jumping so haiiii on the ship!! and everyone please give Anay a big applause, because he not just jumped so haiiiiii, but he could land so perfectly laying on the sunbed by the pool.. wow, what kind of amazing kungfu or magic that was!!!

#2.. eih!! Thai Tom Yum cooking demo?? hmmm, that would be fun, but i think it would be even more fun if they take in passengers to enroll into a cooking class!! that, i am sure would be one of the popular activities onboard.. Thambee will run to join and be the first student!!

    1. Muahahaha! Wakakakaka! You sohaiiii cracked me up with your silliest comments! Why didn't you work as copywriter for ad agencies??? How I could jump up so haaiiii and land on the sun bed!!?? What a @#$%*@ comment!!! LMAO!!!

The Tom Yum was really very delicious and the chef-guru was a Malaysian guy! The prawns were so fresh!

  17. #3.. i wonder what kind of dance they are doing there?? looks like some line dancing huh?? if that was some kind of street hip hop dance, Thambee will be very excited to join.. Thambee will first go to the cooking class, and then join the hip-hop class with himself smelling like Tom Yum and make all other passengers hungry, so that he would be the best student~~ :D

#4.. oh, Anay went to the gym!! hmmm, good motivation for you to eat more i guess.. haha!! with gym you gained 5kg, without gym?? probably 10kg?? OMG, sure Anay will not be able to jump that haiiiiiiii into the sky, like a diamond in the skaiiiiiiiiii then!!!

    1. The dance looked like a line dance that went off line instead! The response was good and everyone seemed happy to shed off fatsssss and eat again later. Aduh!

I think my weight ballooned after going to gym! Like you said, the fats will weigh heavier into muscles! My weight shot up but my pants still not tight. Means what aahhh??

  19. #5.. ah, i see.. so it was Letchumy who actually did more intense workout in the gym.. Anay just went there reki-reki and running on the treadmill while he was still snoring!!

#6.. ah, nice!! not the entire trip on the sea but Anay got a chance go up to the land again.. Phuket, nice place!! but Thambee has not been there before lah.. but landed on the island just for visiting 3 factories?? hmmm.. at least Anay enjoyed tasting the free food samples?? did you buy anything home to munch?? or anything you buy that you can smuggle into GSC to munch while you were watching movie?? :p

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes Thambee sure knows Anay well and better than anyone else here! Anay went reki-reki and exercised eye balls & his mouth in the restaurants!

What the hell? You have not been to Phuket, Taiping, Sibu and Penang but flown to Portugal, Spain, London, Japan, Dubai and where else. Something is wrong with your brains! Phiak your head!!!!
I never ate so much cashew nuts in my life until that day! I think I easily ate over RM50 worth! Muahahaha

    2. Anay's next destination is Sibu ke?? must eat kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia and kampua and piansip and kompia!!!

  20. #7.. ooopss, Thambee is actually commenting while seeing the photos and reading their stories one at a time.. so Anay finished up their jars of samples and bougt the most bags of cashew nuts home!! errr, patut lah, you ate so much samples and you should buy more from them!! wakakakakaka~~ you nuts!!! :D

#8.. wow, very nice temple!! it really looks like the one Thambee went to in Bangkok, the Grand Palace if not mistaken.. so kind hearted Anay is, he went to pray for everyone and world peace instead of just himself striking the lottery and jump more so haiiiiiiiiii to take photos~~ :D

    1. Hoiii Anay not so cheapo la. I ate RM50 of nuts and bought over RM300 worth of nuts! I have fed Thambee and his monkey the loot. LOL

  21. #9.. Sea Shells Museum!! this is something very unique and interesting dei.. and the displays are all very nicely done.. hmmm, they all look like the same shape but the colors are so unique, very beautiful!! did Anay sapu any souvenirs from the museum??

#10.. surely the hawkers know that the dock will be a good place for business, as the passengers slowly board the ship, they would never just get on the ship without browsing around the stuffs they are selling.. smart people the are!! i am sure Anay bought at least something from them..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I saw the sea shells many times but bought nothing! They got them all for free and didn't pay a cent to the King Neptune of the oceans but charged sohaaiiiii for tourists to buy! Kaneeneh!!!

Yes, it was a welcome bonus and brought me smiles after a miserable day around Phuket to see hawkers hawking like vultures! Phuket sells the most expensive things in the whole of Thailand!! So beware and need to bargain. Never bring letchumy when you go bargaining. There I bargained, she would plead at my left ears to be lenient and not so cruel to press the prices sooooo low. Aduhai!!

  22. #11.. ah, i guessed correctly!! Anay did bought something from the stalls.. some nice t-shirts and singlets!! did Anay wear the new clothes on the ship and jump even more haiiiiiiiiiiiiiii to take photos?? i bet your generosity sure was very appreciated, and god will make you jump more haiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii~~~

    3. If your kids have not been to Phuket, I thought it would be nice to just hop onto taxi to town and look-see till after dinner. The ship's thoughtful crew gave everyone a few contact numbers to reach in the event of any emergency in Phuket. If I cruise again, I will avoid Krabi though the beach and sea is excellent for divers but I would visit Phuket town on my own to admire the A-Go-Go bars and watch the world's best pondan shows at Simon's Cabaret!!
Anyway, it's still good to relax and stay behind on the ship as they have lots of activities to participate. You might need passport and check with them if you just wanna walk outside the stalls at night as you will be stepping onto the Thai territory.
*There is no overnight oats served but you can use their canned fruits at the salad bar to make your own. Oh yes, there is no fridge in the rooms! So just eat their freshly made yummy yoghurt with canned and fresh fruits which helped me to lau sai so easily. Muahahaha

Yeah, going for a cruise is going to relax or for an activity - there was a MasterChef cruise just recently but it was departing from Florida and all the rooms were almost fully booked. I was quite interested in that cruise - can also learn to cook from the MasterChef contestants, and all on the ship itself. Unfortunately, have to fly to US and back just for it though so there wasn't enough time to get on the first MasterChef cruise.
